Introduction
The National Awareness programme under ISEA Project Phase –II is envisaged spreading mass awareness on Information Security Awareness through direct and indirect mode. The direct aspect is largely taken up by organizing half day awareness workshop for Academic users - school children/teachers, college students/faculty, etc.; Government users - police/legal personnel, etc. and General users including parents, etc. The indirect aspect includes design & development of multilingual awareness content to be used while organizing Information Security awareness weeks, awareness campaigns through print (newspapers, magazines etc.) & electronic mode (social networking websites, other websites etc.), promotional material (brochures, quarterly newsletters, diaries, calendars, poster, stickers etc.) and updation of multilingual website. Awareness activities are coordinated by C-DAC Hyderabad in association with other RCs/PIs under the project.

I. Awareness Programmes
1. Design & Development of Multilingual Awareness content:
Awareness courseware development with provision for regular online updates to be used by the PIs for imparting awareness workshop / programme for various target user group. In addition to general awareness course material it is also developed ten basic level course materials and ten advanced level course material for Information Security Awareness. Different modules are developed and designed for various stockholders according to the need. For more information @ www.infosecawareness.in and more 110+ topics of content developed and made available in the portal.2. Awareness Workshops:
Awareness workshops are targeted for Academic users, Government users and General users. Academic users include school children/teachers, college students/faculty. Awareness programs are organized as half day workshops across the country for Academic users, Government users and General Users. The Awareness workshop has turned out to be very successful in terms of its coverage and impact to the various stake holder of ISEA Phase II.
Total 1413 workshop organized by covering 2,69,203 participants through direct mode.
II. Awareness Activities
1) Awareness for CBSE/NCERT & State level educational Institutes:
Associating with CBSE/NCERT for making awareness program as a part of the syllabus in the curriculum (optional/compulsory) for School Students and Special courseware initially to be introduced in the 11th& 12th standard and subsequently extending between 6th to 10th standard in a stratified fashion. NCERT has developed ICT curriculum for teachers & students in school education. As a part of this curriculum, safety, security and ethics in cyber world are introduces as separate chapters in textbooks of 9th, 11th Class abd 12th Class. CBSE recommended placing ISEA web link in websites of all schools for creating cyber awareness. Multimedia content prepared under ISEA uploaded in MHRD’s National Repository of Open Educational Resources website at www.nroer.gov.in. In addition, there is a need to train teachers as Master Trainer through three day direct contact classes and two day virtual training. These trainings were conducted by PIs in collaboration with CBSE/State board along with NCERT/SCERT. As on 41 Master Trainers are organized against 48 planned by covering the 1, 24,086 Teachers while the target is 1200. Trained Master trainers are started spreading awareness and conducting the short duration courses for other teachers and in schools
2) Cyber Security Awareness Weeks:
Awareness weeks in Metro/Tier I/II cities in association with Police/Local communities, etc. for creating mass awareness amongst citizens and activities under Awareness Weeks – (a) Master Trainer program (b) Workshops (c) Roadshow/rallies (d) Skids (e) Distribution/pasting of awareness material at prominent places (f) Programs through Doordarshan/AIR/FM Radio (g) Local media coverage.
15 Awareness weeks were conducted by covering 66, 98,900 (Direct and indirect mode) in various in association with Police Departments.
3) Development of Multilingual Websites:
A dedicated multilingual website for information security awareness, www.infosecawareness.in has been developed with user friendly features. The stakeholders are Children, Students, Women, Teachers, Family, System Admin, Police and Government employees. Currently content is available in 10 languages including English. Daily tips on Information security awareness will be displayed as part of awareness generation.
4) Awareness Campaigns through Print and Electronic Media:
Awareness Campaigns were carried on public interest through advertisement and specialized programs or sponsored programs in Doordarshan / All India Radio to pularize the Information Security related aspects and create awareness among wide variety of participants. Specialized columns were published in local languages in print media.130 specialized programs through the National Broadcaster were conducted for wider reach with experts from PI’s.
5) Setting up of Toll-free Technical Support Centre:
Support/Call Centre for Information Security Awareness was created for providing telephonic support with National Toll Free Number. Supported the victims with Information on how to report cybercrime, Cyber cell complaints, Credit/Debit Card Scams, Facebook Photos Privacy Settings, ATM, Job/Work @ home, E-Commerce fraud, support /guidance on cybercrime, Promotional messages cheating etc.
6) Awareness through Quarterly Newsletter and Annual Magazine for all academic and Government:
Quarterly newsletter aims to regularly bring out the various developments in the area of Information Security (IS) and also various activities being carried out under the programme to the academic and government institutions. So far 27 newsletters were published on emerging areas of information security. This Annual in-house Magazine covering the various aspects of Information Security is targeted towards academic and government institutions. All newsletters are widely circulated in both print as well as electronic format .
7) Online Media Campaigns through 30 most visited websites:
Quarterly newsletter aims to regularly bring out the various developments in the area of Information Security (IS) and also various activities being carried out under the programme to the academic and government institutions. So far 27 newsletters were published on emerging areas of information security. This Annual in-house Magazine covering the various aspects of Information Security is targeted towards academic and government institutions. All newsletters are widely circulated in both print as well as electronic format .
