About ISEA

Information Security Education and Awareness (ISEA) is an initiative of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India for generating human resources in the area of Information Security and creating general awareness on Cyber Hygiene/Cyber Security among the masses.

ISEA Project (started in 2005 and currently in its third phase since Oct. 2023 onwards) is aimed at human resources development for safe, trusted, and secure cyber space.

These verticals are to be supported through Common Infrastructure & Shared Resources on cloud, inter-linked through a single interface namely, ISEA Virtual Platform (IVP), for various stakeholders and end-users

Implementation

The project is implemented through select 50 institutions in a hub-n-spoke mode, comprising:

  • Premier Academic Institutions i.e. IITs, NITs, IIITs, etc.
  • Autonomous Organizations of MeitY i.e. C-DAC & NIELIT
  • Technical Universities

Academic Activities

  • 94,635 candidates trained so far in formal/non-formal and professional training courses
  • In addition, around 2.90 lakh candidates reported as trained/under-going training in affiliated colleges of 5 Technical Universities
  • Model course structure/syllabus for - New M. Tech. in Information Security, M. Tech/MS by Research, M. Tech/B. Tech Retrofit, 1 year/6-month training programs designed by experts.

Government Officials Training

  • 28,444 Government officials trained in various short-term courses in Information Security
  • 30 awareness programs organized as a part of ‘Cyber Jagrookta Diwas’ (organized on 1st Wednesday of every month) covering 9,067 candidates of MeitY and its organizations.

Mass Awareness

  • 1,867 awareness workshops on Information Security organized for school/college students, teachers, Govt. personnel, LEAs, general users, parents, women, etc. covering 4,43,364 participants.
  • 1,26,173 schoolteachers trained as master trainers in 48 training programmes.
  • Online quiz competitions on cyber hygiene/cyber security aspects have been organized regularly, in which, 6.22 lakh candidates have been participated and 3.21 lakh candidates have cleared the same.
  • Around 5.75 crore estimated beneficiaries have been covered so far through indirect mode covering:
    • 15 Cyber Safety and Cyber Security Awareness Weeks organized in select cities in collaboration with State Cyber Cell/Police departments
    • 130 mass awareness programs broadcasted through Doordarshan/All India Radio
    • Repository of multilingual awareness material published in the form of handbooks (16), newsletters (26), multimedia short videos (75), multi-lingual posters (121), cartoon stories for children (65), etc. disseminated through print, electronics & social media and are also made available for download through https://staysafeonline.in/

Our Impact

ISEA - Phase I

The ISEA Project which is aimed at generation of manpower in the area of Information Security at various levels, train government officials and create mass awareness was completed on 31.3.2014 under which more than 42,000 students were trained in various formal and non-formal courses at various academic institutions, NIELIT and CDAC; and more than 500 awareness workshops were conducted throughout the country.

ISEA - Phase II

ISEA Phase II of the project has been approved with an outlay of Rs. 96.08 crore to be implemented over a period of 5 years w.e.f. 01.4.2014. Under the ISEA Phase-II, 1.14 lakh persons are proposed to be trained under formal and non-formal courses, faculty training, etc. In addition, about 400 paper publications are expected. The project also aims to provide training to more than 13,000 Government officials and creating mass information security awareness targeted towards Academic users, Government users and General users (approximately 3 crore Internet users in five years through direct and indirect mode).
